In certain court cases, organizations may seek permission from the court to participate as an intervenor. Intervenors do not represent the parties involved in the case. Instead, they provide the court with additional perspectives or expertise on legal issues that may have broader implications. OTLA seeks leave to intervene in cases that may meaningfully influence the development of the law and affect the rights of injured people in Ontario. Staff and committee members monitor trial and appellate court decisions and bring significant cases to the attention of OTLA’s Interventions Committee, which assesses whether the association should seek leave to intervene.
